Pennington Fast Acting Lime

Pennington's Fast Acting Lime uses their Advanced Soil Technology (AST) coating — the same technology seen in their grass seed lines — to create a lime product that starts working the moment water hits it. Standard pelletized lime needs to break down over weeks before it starts influencing soil chemistry; Pennington's coating eliminates that lag. The result is meaningful pH movement within a few weeks of application, which matters if you're racing to get soil corrected before a fall seeding window. At 30 lbs covering ~5,000 sq ft and a price point around $20–25, it's one of the most accessible entry points for lime treatment. The trade-off compared to Jonathan Green's Mag-I-Cal Plus: Pennington doesn't include the soil loosening component, so for heavy clay it's a more targeted pH-only product. For loamy or sandy acidic soil where structure isn't the primary concern, Pennington is an excellent value.
